Job Description
The goal of the NMC team/ Wireless Network Hardware Engineer is to perform scheduled changes remotely in the commercial network error free. As part of the Network Maintenance Center team, the engineer will be responsible for remotely executing mass software/firmware changes, parameter changes across both 4G and 5G technologies in a live network environment. Familiarity with Unix is a must. Most of the work will be in the Maintenance Window.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledgeable on 4G and/or 5G 3GPP technologies
- Be able to review various Engineering MOPs and identify missing steps or issues if any
- Provide assistance to customers on maintenance window, support during network issues, parameter changes and SW upgrades.
- Responsible for routine or standard technical problems and responds to standard requests from internal and external customers.
- Ability to work under pressure and finish the work mistake free in the Maintenance Window
- Ability to execute scripts in CLI
- Support Field, Samsung engineering, Lab, HQ, and RF Engineers with parameters changes, NBR adds, clearing alarms, etc
- Overseeing and participation in installation of wireless communications equipment
- Troubleshooting of wireless network issues through the systematic test and debugging of hardware and software systems
- Testing and characterizing performance of wireless networks through logging, monitoring, and reporting on key performance indicators
- Developing methods of procedure (MOPs) and providing training for other installation professionals
- Experience and familiarity with 3G/4G cellular communications systems infrastructure ( RAN and CORE) and user equipment (UE / CPE)
- Basic RF engineering skills including familiarity with 3G/4G radios/antenna systems
- Design and deployment of LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other networking hardware
- Experience with basic electronic test tools such as DVM, fiber test sets, RF power meters
- Experience with basic laboratory test equipment like Ethernet test sets, base station analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
- Competence with diagnostic and standard hand tools
- Good working knowledge of AC and DC power testing including 3 Phase AC
- Experience and familiarity with configuration and operation of 24VDC & 48 VDC power supplies
- Familiarity with networking equipment, fiber optics, GPS systems
- Familiarity with electronic equipment installation best practices
- Basic familiarity of electronic equipment regulatory certifications
- Excellent hardware and troubleshooting experience
Success Criteria:
- Be able to execute mass changes in the customers live network error free
- Provide support to multi-functional team of R&D, Program Management, Core Networking, RF Engineering, Transport and Technical/Training Support to fulfill multi-technology wireless network deployment across customer markets
- Proven analytical and problem solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Self-motivated and willingness/ability to work independently
Qualifications:
- BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years relevant experience
- Good knowledge of wireless network architecture concepts especially in RAN domain
- Good knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating systems to be able to perform activities at the CLI level
